The adhesive is done! - Insights of the winner
The winners of our PIZ Palü competition from spring successfully climbed the majestic summit in the Bernina massif together with a trained mountain guide for two days in June.

Breathtaking high tour on the 3,900m high glaciated Piz Palü in the Bernina group of the Eastern Alps - tells of the winner.
We started our two -day tour comfortably with a ride in the air cable car from the Bernina Diavolezza valley station (2093 m) and floated to the Berghaus Diavolezza, 2978 m high in seven minutes. Once there, an overwhelming view of a sea of ice and snow opened up for us.

The Berghaus Diavolezza is not an ordinary mountain hut in the middle of a barren mountain landscape, but a mountain house, which is equipped with all kinds of luxury, on a yoke with a view of the mighty Graubünden mountains Piz Bernina and Piz Palü as well as the expiring glacier tongues of the Perea and Morteratsch Glacier.
After we moved into our quarters, we hiked from the Berghaus Diavolezza to the nearby Munt Pers and enjoyed the captivating view directly on the Piz Palü with its three peaks and the four hanging glaciers embedded north side, which are also separated from the Persgletscher. All the greater, our fore friends became a tomorrow's tour.
Diavolezza means in a Romanesque one: devilin and originally comes from an old story:
After a narrative, who was transferred from generation to generation, lived a female being of inhumane beauty many years ago at the "in German: Lost Mountain). Where - bordered by rock towers and large scrollnesses - a deep blue lake was reflected in the sun. The fate wanted to see a few times by young hunters.
Because one hunter after the other disappeared and lost to the Munt Pers. Nobody came back. Also â € Žaratsch “not, a handsome young man from the village. It was searched for him in vain and finally you had to assume that he had fell into the glacier fractures at the person or crashed somewhere. Then it was astonishing: If you were born in the region of the Bernina massif at the time - heard from the wind - a slope voice called out the following three words: Ais Aratsch, Mort Ais Aratsch… ”, which means â € Žaratsch is dead” and the origin of the Morteratsch is the pretty devilin that had torn several youngsters because of its incredible beauty? Did she complain about Aratsch's death? According to say yes. So she continues that Diavolezza found no peace - until the glacier advanced and the whole alp was covered with ice and rubble down into the valley. After that she was never heard or seen again. Which does not necessarily mean that she is no longer there ...
When we returned from the Munt Pers, we met our mountain guide Roman Hinder in the Berghaus. When enjoying the fabulous four-course menu in the evening, we went through the tour planned for the next day on the Piz Palü via the normal route.
The next day started early in the morning at 3 a.m. with a decent, somewhat unusually early breakfast for my stomach and we started our tour on the Piz Palü in the light of our headlamps at 3:45 a.m.

First it went along the mountain station past the packed snow of the ski slopes to the Piz Trovat.
We meandered east around the Piz Trovat, in order to finally create our crampons on the Fuorcla d’Arlas on the Persgletscher.
It then continued as a rope team over the Persgletscher, which was still covered with snow, but actually very rugged. The conditions were very good. The firn was still frozen and offered good hold while walking. Past the foot of the Piz Cambrenas to the breathtaking demolition. We climbed through the large glacier breaks that could no longer be amazed.

In front of us there was an impact on the crowd for decades. We reached the schnapps floor, where we took time for a first little break.
We continued towards the shoulder of the east ridge. The path on the glacier became steeper and unfortunately also more and more cloudy, so that we were at the top of the white. We climbed to the east summit on the short rope secured at a lofty height over the narrow Firngrat. The steep and exposed ridge, on which it goes steeply on both sides, seemed less threatening due to the limited perspective because we could not see far from the left and right of ourselves. From the eastern summit we went over another narrow Firngrat to the 18m higher main summit. Arrived at the main summit, due to the lack of view, we made sure that we were really at the summit of the 3900m high Piz Palü. So about 157 years after the English first climber Kenelm Edward Digby and his guide Peter Jenny we reached the main summit of the Piz Palü.
Due to the lack of a view of the surrounding mountains and the whistling wind, we quickly turned back to the descent along the promotion route. Back at the edge of the demolition we were back below the cloud cover and were able to enjoy the view into the distance. The firn gradually became softer, but we reached the glacier edge without any problems and were able to stow our crampons and pimples back in the backpack. We reached the Diavolezza again around 12:10 p.m. and proudly let the view of the Piz Palü wander with a hearty Hamburg. It was a sublime feeling to have climbed this great mountain.

Finally, we took a last look back on this impressive mountain landscape before we floated back into the valley by bustle.
