


Bamboo whisk
The Chasen, or Matcha whisk, is an essential tool in traditional Matcha preparation. It is meticulously handcrafted from a single piece of bamboo. After drying, the bamboo is sliced into fine strands — the future bristles. These are softened over hot steam and gently shaped into their iconic form. The tips curl slightly inward, offering protection and giving the whisk its signature blossom-like silhouette.
With the Chasen, Matcha powder is whisked with hot water in the bowl until a fine, creamy foam appears. This velvety texture allows the full umami flavor of the vibrant green tea to unfold — a delight for all the senses.
Good to know
Before whisking, briefly soak the Chasen in warm water. This helps the delicate bristles open gently, ensuring optimal foam creation. Soaking also prepares the whisk for use and preserves its handcrafted structure. After use, rinse with warm water only (no soap), and let it dry on a porcelain holder.
To create the perfect foam, whisk the tea in quick “M” or “W” motions for about 10 to 20 seconds.
