«Tea-Crush» – wenn Tee auf feines Eis trifft

«Tea-Crush» brings together two things that might not seem an obvious match at first: tea and finely «crushed ice». Yet it is precisely this combination that creates something new. Clean in flavor, light in texture, and surprisingly complex.
With Sirocco’s tea granita recipes, premium tea meets the crystalline structure of granita. Fine crushed ice gently absorbs the tea’s aromas, giving them a new sense of lightness.
The result is a refreshingly different experience –somewhere between a beverage and a dessert, delicate yet full of character.
Sicily in a glass – the story behind Granita
Granita is far more than a summertime treat. It represents a piece of Sicilian culture and way of life. Its origins date back many centuries, when snow was gathered from the mountains and from Mount Etna, then stored in so-called «snow houses» to provide cooling during the hot summer months. Mixed with water, sugar, and aromatic ingredients, it became the precursor of what we know today as granita.
To this day, granita remains distinctly different from sorbet. Rather than being creamy, it is defined by its fine, crystalline texture. These tiny ice crystals give granita its unmistakable character and make it exceptionally light and refreshing.
The name granita derives from the Italian word «grano» and the Latin «granum», both referring to a grain. The name reflects the characteristic granular texture that remains its signature feature to this day.
Today, granita is deeply woven into everyday life in Sicily. What surprises many visitors is that it is not enjoyed only as a dessert. In cities such as Catania and Messina, the day often begins with a granita accompanied by a freshly baked brioche. The combination of icy refreshment and sweet yeast pastry is as much a part of summer there as the sound of the sea and the warm Mediterranean sun.

Less sweetness, more expression
The foundation of granita is beautifully simple. Water, a delicate sweetness, and aromatic elements. This is precisely where tea introduces a new dimension.
Compared to fruit or coffee, tea aromas tend to be clearer, more refined, and more nuanced. When served frozen, their flavors become more subtle. Brewing the tea slightly stronger ensures that its character continues to shine through, even in its frozen form. The result is a refreshing treat that invigorates without feeling heavy.

Five teas for Summer
For «Tea-Crush», we have reimagined five Sirocco teas as granitas – each with its own distinctive character and unique expression:
Green Jasmine
A gently astringent green tea paired with delicate jasmine blossoms. Floral and elegant, with a pure, serene freshness.
Green Tropic
Bright and vibrant. Juicy mango meets the refreshing citrus notes of lemon, lending this granita a light tropical character.
Yuzu Sencha
Citrusy, vibrant, and beautifully balanced. The rare Asian yuzu fruit adds a surprisingly lively and refreshingly sweet note to this premium sencha.
White Peach
White tea at its most delicate. Smooth, rounded, and subtly fruity, with the succulent flavor of ripe peach.
Piña Moringa
Our exotic creation. Not a traditional tea, but an organic fruit and herbal blend of pineapple and moringa leaves. Fruity, gently tart, and distinctly modern in flavor.
A refreshment with a twist
Tea Granita is both effortless and distinctive. It truly comes into its own at summer gatherings, where its unique character can shine. Served in small glasses and finished with fresh herbs or fruit, it creates a memorable moment of enjoyment that sets itself apart from traditional desserts. Light, elegant, and just a little unexpected.
Served ice-cold. Less sweet. More tea.
