Derived from the Hindi words masālā (spice mixture) and chai (tea), masala chai is a traditional Indian spiced tea that has been enjoyed for centuries.
Seasoned travelers familiar with India know that this indigenous tea is made and sold by so-called chaiwalas right on the street, in train stations, or on passenger trains. 
Every family in the country has their own unique recipe for making it. A few of them will even add special coins to their chai – perhaps as tokens for good luck and prosperity. What would you add to your chai?

A typical masala spice mixture for classic chai consists of the following spices:
•    Cinnamon
•    Cardamom
•    Ginger
•    Cloves
•    Black pepper
