Article: April has many facets and moods. So does matcha.

April has many facets and moods. So does matcha.

Der April hat viele Gesichter. Matcha auch.

April is a month of surprising subtleties and nuances. It is a month of clarity, vivaciousness, renewal, and one rich in contrasts. Mornings are cool and misty, while the afternoons are bright and sunny. This is the time when nature boldly embraces new beginnings. Buds burst open with vitality, colors appear livelier, and every day reveals a new side of nature’s character.
Matcha is the perfect match for this month. Its vibrant green powder combines heritage, vigor, and delight in a single cup. Just like the month of April itself, it is richly diverse: dominant at times, mellow at others, boosting one moment, soothing the next. Matcha has many moods, and you can pick the one that suits your day!

What’s really behind high-quality matcha

Excellent matcha always depends on its origins. Our organic matcha is sourced from the Shizuoka Prefecture on Japan’s main island of Honshū, a world-renowned tea-growing region steeped in a long, flourishing history. Its mild climate, the fresh sea breezes, and the mineral-rich volcanic soil create ideal conditions for cultivating the finest tea varieties.
With this type of tea, the plants are shaded for two to three weeks before harvest. This practice allows the color of the tea leaves to deepen into an almost mystical green and also intensifies the tea flavor for enhanced umami. Only the most tender leaves are then meticulously ground into a fine powder using traditional granite mills.
Incidentally, Sirocco obtains leaves from the first harvest for all matcha products and for our premium tea, which is the venerable centerpiece of traditional tea ceremonies. This ensures a mild, highly aromatic cup with a delicate sweetness, making every moment even that more special.

Tradition in step with today: the path to preparing matcha

Connoisseurs who appreciate the traditional tea ceremony are certainly familiar with the bamboo tea whisk. Immersed in each individual tea bowl, this utensil is essential for whisking matcha powder in hot water (about 80° C) into a fine, airy foam.
Recognized tea masters (and likewise we at Sirocco) recommend whipping it lightly and briskly back and forth with the classic “M” or “W” wrist motion to perfectly dissolve the powder, letting the tea’s delicate creamy texture elegantly unfold.

But no matter how you enjoy matcha, one thing never changes. Premium tea and painstaking preparation are vital for the ultimate, authentic taste experience. Contrary to ordinary green tea, in which only the infusion is imbibed, matcha uses the entire leaf – finely ground and consumed in its entirety. That is why the intrinsic quality of the tea leaves is so crucial.
This is the only way to create that very special moment: the delicate foam, the harmoniously intense flavor, celebrated by the tranquility of the tea ritual itself.

Matcha is much more than just hot or iced

Many appreciate matcha when it is served hot in an elegant, ceremonial tea bowl or in other cases as a creamy iced latte in a glass. And yet, those are just two of many tempting ways of enjoying it.
Matcha is truly versatile – you can have it any which way you want: chilled, mild, smooth, strong, creamy, or zesty.
Some days call for serenity, others for excitement. And still others for a little pick-me-up. So, go ahead and pick your matcha mood!
